The power of a reason.
On my podcast recently, I was recounting how I had stopped a fight. A bunch of guys were beating up a friend of mine and when I arrived on the scene, I managed to stop the pummeling with one word.
“Why?!”
Possibly it was the volume and conviction with which I said it, but I also think that part of why this worked was the fact the it demanded to know the motivation for their actions. It was almost as though they realised they had no reason to hit my friend and all of a sudden, there was no wind in their sails.
How does that apply to radio? Your audience needs to have a very strong “why” to listen to you. This could be a particular feature that they must hear or a certain personality who is their favourite. Whatever the reasons are, you need to know them so you don’t make the mistake of removing them.
